This program addresses strategies to implement and improve affiliations and arrangements between hospitals and physician groups. The continuing rise of value-based programs has increased the need for hospital alignment and collaboration with physician groups, but the formation and operation of these arrangements requires understanding of the parties’ objectives, balancing of governance and authority, and consideration of risks under fraud and abuse laws. This session will review affiliation models, including co-management arrangements, joint ventures, and value-based enterprise, and identify structures, terms, and responsibilities aimed at achieving hospital goals of quality and performance while balancing physician independence and incentives. The session will also address the regulatory framework for such arrangements and common kickback issues arising during the hospital-physician group relationship.
Sean Quinn is a healthcare partner with Husch Blackwell LLP. Sean’s practice focuses on advising providers, such as health systems, hospitals, academic medical centers, and physician groups, in regulatory and compliance matters and business transactions. His regulatory practice focuses on minimizing risk under fraud and abuse laws, including Stark and Anti-Kickback, and advising providers in operational and licensing issues, corporate governance, compliance programs, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, and payment and coverage issues. His transactional practice includes representing providers and companies in acquisitions and affiliations, as well as advising health systems, hospitals, and physician groups in integration strategies and the formation and operation of joint ventures and arrangements, such as co-management agreements.
Location
This program will be a hybrid program with both an in-person and virtual option. Please select the appropriate ticket for whether you intend to be in-person or virtual. Lunch will be provided to those in-person. The Zoom information will only be provided to those who purchase virtual tickets.

- From there, you will create an Account by entering a username, name, email address, and password. Then select “Complete Sign Up.”
- The account will need to be activated by using the link in a confirmation email sent to the registered email address. Once the account is activated, you will login using the credentials provided (username and password).
- Once logged in, navigate to the Program page and select the number of tickets needed and select “Get Tickets” to proceed with the checkout process.
