What a difference a year makes! In a decision not expected to be appealed, the Arizona trial court in Reuss v. Arizona has declared Arizona’s 15-week abortion limitation unconstitutional in light of the initiative Arizona voters passed last fall. This program will outline the impacts of Reuss, what abortion laws remain on the books, and what is likely to be ahead with respect to the regulation of abortion in Arizona. The speakers also will cover the impacts of EMTALA nationally, medication abortion (mifepristone) issues, the recent extradition dispute involving a New York physician and Texas authorities, and national trends, including the potential revival of the federal Comstock Act.
Marki Stewart, a partner at Coppersmith Brockelman with a significant reproductive health law practice, assists hospitals, physician groups, ambulatory surgery centers, telemedicine providers, and other health care organizations with a variety of health care regulatory and operations issues, including reproductive health law in Arizona in the wake of the Dobbs decision.
Karen Owens, also a Coppersmith partner, represents health care systems, hospitals, clinics, and other providers in matters of quality assurance, risk management, and compliance with clinical regulations. She regularly assists health care providers with licensure, survey compliance, EMTALA, patient consent, and many other regulatory matters touching clinical operations.
Location
This program will be a hybrid program with both an in-person and virtual option. Please select the appropriate ticket for whether you intend to be in-person or virtual. Lunch will be provided to those in-person. The Zoom information will only be provided to those who purchase virtual tickets.

- This will take you to the login page. If you are a member, use the login information utilized for your membership. If you are a non-member, you will need to create an account to purchase a ticket. Non-members who have not created an account yet, must select “Register” along the bottom next to “Lost your password?”
- From there, you will create an Account by entering a username, name, email address, and password. Then select “Complete Sign Up.”
- The account will need to be activated by using the link in a confirmation email sent to the registered email address. Once the account is activated, you will login using the credentials provided (username and password).
- Once logged in, navigate to the Program page and select the number of tickets needed and select “Get Tickets” to proceed with the checkout process.
