2024 Healthcare Legislative Update and Election Preview

AzSHA’s annual legislative recap will focus on state legislation from the 2024 legislative session. As well, we’ll provide a preview to this fall’s election and how it may impact the next two years in the policymaking arena. Our speakers bring deep expertise and experience to public policy and state legislation in the healthcare space.

Jason Bezozo is the Vice President for Government Relations at Banner Health. He worked at the Arizona State Senate as the Senior Legislative Research Analyst for the Senate Health Committee and as Assistant Director for the Senate Research Staff. He joined the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association in 2002 as the Director of Government Affairs and Policy and then joined Banner Health in 2006 to manage government relations across the health care system. Jason has a history degree from ASU and a Master’s in business administration from the University of Phoenix.

Debbie Johnston is Senior Advisor for the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA). She has been with the Association for over 20 years. Prior to her current position, she served as AzHHA’s Executive Vice President, Vice President of Policy and Advocacy and Director of Regulatory Affairs. Before joining AzHHA, Debbie worked at the Arizona State Senate as Director of Research Staff and lead staff for the Appropriations and Commerce Committees. In her current role with AzHHA, Debbie is providing transitional leadership for the Policy and Advocacy team while AzHHA searches for a new Senior Vice President. Debbie is looking forward to retiring (or semiretirement) later this year!

Damien Johnson is AzHHA’s Director of Government Relations. He brings over 16 years of experience in the Arizona healthcare industry, combining deep expertise in patient care and policy. A seasoned paramedic turned administrator, Damien has made significant contributions to the Arizona Medical Association and AzHHA, focusing on improving policy for both patients and providers. Recognized for his skill in data-driven decision making and policy development, Damien excels in enhancing healthcare systems and policies in Arizona. He is passionate about advancing statewide initiatives and is excited to share his wealth of knowledge, driving forward the conversation on healthcare excellence and innovation. Damien holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from Arizona State University and a Master of Business Administration from Grand Canyon University.

 

Location

This program will be a hybrid program with both an in-person and virtual option. Please select the appropriate ticket for whether you intend to be in-person or virtual. Lunch will be provided to those in-person. The Zoom information will only be provided to those who purchase virtual tickets.

To Register

Regardless of membership, you must login to purchase tickets. To do so:

  1. Under ticket information, click “login to purchase”
  2. This will take you to the login page. If you are a member, use the login information utilized for your membership. If you are a non-member, you will need to create an account to purchase a ticket. Non-members who have not created an account yet, must select “Register” along the bottom next to “Lost your password?”
  3. From there, you will create an Account by entering a username, name, email address, and password. Then select “Complete Sign Up.”
  4. The account will need to be activated by using the link in a confirmation email sent to the registered email address. Once the account is activated, you will login using the credentials provided (username and password).
  5. Once logged in, navigate to the Program page and select the number of tickets needed and select “Get Tickets” to proceed with the checkout process.

Once you have registered online, you will receive a calendar invitation and information about attending or accessing the program, depending on ticket type. The program cost is as follows:
